Friday, December 13, 2019

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Several students from schools across Pulaski County Special School District received recognition for their work in the 32nd Annual Gingerbread Extravaganza hosted by Treatment Homes. The winning coloring sheets will be on display in the Rotunda of the Arkansas State Capitol on Sunday, December 15 from 1pm until 4pm.

Students in pre-K through fifth grade received coloring sheets from Treatment Homes a few weeks ago. The finished coloring sheets were sent to Treatment Homes by December 9 to be judged by the art department at Parkview Arts and Science High School. There were three categories: PreK - 1st Grade, 2nd - 3rd Grade and 4th - 5th Grade.

The following PCSSD students received recognition for their coloring sheet:
  • Pre-K - 1st Grade Category:
    • 3rd Place - Nixon Stone, Baker Elementary, 1st Grade
  • 2nd - 3rd Grade Category:
    • 2nd Place - Kennedy Porter, Baker Elementary, 2nd Grade
    • 3rd Place - Julissa Gomez, Crystal Hill Elementary, 3rd Grade
  • 4th - 5th Grade Category:
    • 2nd Place - Piper Jolly, Chenal Elementary, 5th Grade

Students purchased gingerbread house kits from the Treatment Homes and decorated them at home for the Gingerbread House Decorating competition. All entries will be on display this Sunday and voted on during the Extravaganza on December 15. There will be prizes for winners in the categories Youth, Grades K-3, Grades 4–6, Grades 7-12, Adults, and Teams.

The Gingerbread Extravaganza will take place from 1pm until 4pm in the Rotunda of the Arkansas State Capitol. There will be a chance for photos with Santa from 2:30pm until 3:30pm. The Gingerbread contest winners will be announced starting at 3:30pm.

Treatment Homes hosts the Gingerbread Extravaganza each year to raise funds to support the extra needs of foster children throughout the year, including presents for the annual Christmas party.
