PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. -- Two Pulaski County Special School District choral directors have been chosen by their peers as Region 2 Distinguished Director of the Year as part of the Arkansas Choral Directors Association.

Anthony Fuller with Joe T. Robinson Middle School was selected as the Distinguished Junior High Choral Director of the Year. Elaine Harris with Sylvan Hills High School was selected as the Distinguished Senior High Choral Director of the Year.

“I am truly humbled by this honor,” said Fuller. “I am grateful to have received this honor from my peers and proud of the continued hard work and dedication brought by my students.”

Fuller is a graduate of Arkansas State University and has been teaching at Joe T. Robinson Middle School since 2012. He is currently working on his Masters in Education Leadership.

“I am absolutely honored to be awarded a Distinguished Director,” said Harris. “It is humbling to be recognized by your peers and I thank them for their confidence in me, as well as for their continued contributions to students across the state.”

Harris is in her 37th year of teaching. She has received the National Federation of High Schools Outstanding Music Education Teacher Award for Arkansas 2017-2018, Central Region Distinguished Director in 1998-1999 and 2011-2012, and Sherwood Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year in 1999. Under her direction, choirs at Sylvan Hills consistently receive First Division Superior Ratings at Regional and State assessments.

Fuller and Harris, along with other regional winners from around the state, to be voted on for the State Distinguished Director of the Year for Junior High and Senior High.

Region 2 includes school districts north to Marshall, northeast to Beebe, east to Hazen, south to Little Rock, and west to include portions of Conway.
