PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. -- Three schools from Pulaski County Special School District participated in a ceremony to honor the academic accomplishments and achievements of African American High school students. This year's event took place on Sunday, February 23, 2020, in the M. L. Harris Auditorium at Philander Smith College.

As a part of its Black History Month events, Philander Smith College celebrated academic excellence in the Little Rock African-American community by hosting this inaugural African-American Honors Ceremony.

Students who qualified for this award received a certificate and medallion representing their accomplishments. For students to qualify, they must be a senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Scholarships were awarded to students that scored a 19 on the ACT. They received the Thomas Scholarship which totaled $28,000. Students with a 4.0 GPA and a 28 or higher on the ACT were awarded the Presidential Scholarship totaling over $94,000. This covers tuition, room and board, and an ipad.
