MAUMELLE, Ark. -- Maumelle High School engineering students spent their Saturday building picnic tables for students and staff on high school grounds.
Nearly 25 students, along with their parents and other community leaders, attended the community service event on Saturday, March 6.
“It was a beautiful day for the community to come together Saturday and build picnic tables for the teacher and students,” said Lori Lachowsky, a teacher at Maumelle High School.
Students and staff regularly spend time outdoors during the school day for class or planning purposes. The school asked the community for possible donations and Maumelle residents responded in full by donating material to build six 6-foot tables, two will be teachers and four will be for students.
The school’s engineering class built the tables with the help of a few local construction experts. Ms. Keesee, the engineering teacher, said her students were so excited to spend the day on their community service project along with their parents. After the event, Daryl Brock with Brock Construction, contacted the school to announce that Whit Davis Lumber Company would donate supplies for two more tables.
Each table will include a metal engraved plaque thanking our Maumelle donors for their generosity and support in this unprecedented year of 2021. Donors include:
Daryl Brock Construction (building The Quarters in Maumelle)
Lisa Sugs with Crye-Leike Realty
Gene Blaire with Walt Davis in Greenbrier
Jamie Turner (local Maumelle handyman)
Cypress Social (donated $2,500 in gift cards to the senior class of 2021)
